Split Prawns with Garlic Butter and Lemon & Black Pepper Flavour Pearls

This is definitely one of my all time favourite ways to enjoy Prawns. Simply cooked magnificent fresh seafood. Super quick to cook too. Once the Prawns are split it takes only minutes to cook and serve them. An ideal dish for one or two or a decadent share plate to enjoy with friends and family as part of a larger spread.

We asked for the largest whole raw prawns available from our local Fish Shop. They were frozen so we left them to thaw overnight in the fridge on a tray. Fresh is ideal but don’t stress if frozen is all that’s available. These were magnificent!

What you’ll need…

  • Whole Raw Prawns in the Shell – just decide how many per person and multiply
  • Olive Oil
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Garlic – crush one clove
  • Parsley or herb of your choice – around a tablespoon chopped
  • Butter – 1/2 to 1 cup depending on how many prawns you’ll be serving (2ish tablespoons per person)
  • Lemon & Black Pepper Flavour Pearls
  • Scissors
  • Sharp Knife
  • BBQ or Grill Plate on the Stove

Lets get started

First lets get the Garlic Butter ready. Simply add your crushed Garlic and Butter into a small pot with some Salt & Pepper. Gently heat then set it aside until later (even the next day or so).

Next

It’s Prawn time! We removed the heads with a sharp knife. (They make a delicious stock if you feel so inclined and don’t want to waste)

Using some scissors chop off the legs.

With a sharp knife cut through the underneath where you’ve just taken the legs. You should be able to pull out the poo line. If they need it give them a quick cold water rinse (you likely won’t need to though).

Open out the prawns with your hands and pop them into a bowl large enough for all of them.

Time to Cook

Get your BBQ or Grill Plate hot. Add a good lug of Olive Oil into the prawns and mix them about. You need the cut side of each Prawn to have a lick of oil.

Warm up the Garlic Butter and add the chopped Herbs. Set aside.

One by one take the Prawns and place them firmly cut side down onto the Grill Plate. If the BBQ has a lid pull it down for a minute or two or add a the lid off a pot or a baking tray over your Grill Plate to help the Prawns cook through quickly.

Flip them onto the other side for a bit if you think they need more cooking. Set them aside onto a platter or tray as you cook the rest.

Ready to serve

Simply place your cooked Prawns cut side up on to your serving plates. Season well with Salt & Pepper. Add a generous amount of warmed Garlic Butter onto each plate and lastly top with some Lemon & Black pepper Flavour Pearls.

Ta dah…

Until next time
